ETERE
Nel linguaggio comune “etere” è il termine che si usa per indicare in maniera generica lo spazio atmosferico come luogo di trasmissione di dati senza cavo, emissioni radio televisive comprese. Oggi la nostra vita sembra indissolubilmente legata alla tecnologia wireless che impiega l’etere come luogo di trasmissione dei segnali: radio, microonde, infrarossi. Per consentire questo tipo di trasmissione, ciascun dispositivo deve possedere all'interno un chip integrato in grado di trasmettere e ricevere informazioni nell'etere. “Etere” è un progetto a lungo termine di studio del cambiamento del paesaggio in seguito al boom della tecnologia senza fili. Il focus è concentrato nel territorio dell'Italia del nord est. Terra di cortocircuiti visivi fra meraviglie paesaggistiche come le Dolomiti e l'industria. Non possiamo vedere ad occhio nudo la giungla di segnali che ci circondano e ho sentito la necessità di raccontare l’impatto visibile dello sfruttamento dell’etere attraverso uno studio delle infrastrutture che lo permettono.
In the common language "ether" is the term used to indicate in a generic way the atmospheric space as a place of wireless data transmission, including radio and television broadcasts. Today our life seems inextricably linked to wireless technology that uses the ether as a place for transmitting signals: radio, microwave, infrared. To allow this type of transmission, each device must have an integrated chip inside that can transmit and receive information over the air. “Etere” is a long-term project to study the change in the landscape following the boom in wireless technology. The focus is concentrated on the territory of northeastern Italy. A land of visual short circuits between scenic wonders such as the Dolomites and industry. We cannot see with the naked eye the jungle of signals that surround us and I felt the need to tell the visible impact of the exploitation of the ether through a study of the infrastructures that allow it.
